Job Description

A Typical Workday May Include: Monitor and operate equipment associated with the distribution of potable water. Install new water service to residential and commercial properties. Locate and repair water leaks and maintain water mains, pumping facilities, valves, water storage facilities, and main-to-meter service lines. Perform a variety of water service orders for customer turn on or turn off service. Operate water distribution system equipment including a hydro excavator, mini excavator, dump truck and tapping tools. Monitoring and operating equipment associated with the collection and treatment of wastewater. Other duties as assigned.

Shift: 1st Shift, 4 –1/2-day work week
Compensation: $20.51 / hr. DOQ (minimum increases to $22.68 on 1/1/25)
Stand-by On Call pay = $3/ hr.
Call back minimum =3 hours pay
Certification pay = Up to $4,368 per year (based on number of Water, WW, and Lab certs)

What You Will Need:
Must be 18 years or older with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor weather including adverse weather conditions.
Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting or pushing up to 90lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting.
Ability to understand and communicate orally or in writing.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice.
Valid Kansas driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.
Valid Kansas Class I Water Operator’s certification within 18 months of employment.


What Will Put You Ahead:
General knowledge of mechanics, water testing equipment and construction of water mains.
KDHE Water or Wastewater Operator’s certification.  
Kansas Class B Commercial Driver’s license.
