Job Description:

Responsibilities include:

Public programming, including executing presenter contracts and booking travel and accommodations (40%)

- Secure space for 7-15 public programs per year.

- Address logistical concerns that will include travel and accommodations for presenters.

- Identify venues for an annual week-long retreat in Lawrence.

- Plan logistics including dining for all the visiting scholars during retreats.

- Execute presenter contracts.

- Meet with and communicate with PIs to design cohesive public programming.

Facilitate community partnerships in Lawrence, Kansas City, and nationally (40%)

- Facilitating the transfer and reporting of community grants funds.

- Assist in the design of the community grant application and selection process.

- Disseminate applications and advertise community grants.

- Communicate with community partners as needed.

- Coordinate meetings with PIs and community members.

Coordinate advisory board (5%)

- Schedule quarterly meetings of the advisory board.

- Provide any required logistical support (zoom links, room reservations, etc.).

- Coordinate payment of advisory board members.

Manage project website, communications, and social media (5%)

- Manage and execute minor changes to the website.

- Coordinate any larger changes with the web designer.

- Oversee and update all project related social media as directed by the PIs.

Capture community feedback and disseminate assessments (5%)

- Gather feedback through community surveys and online assessments designed by the project team.

- Coordinate with other project team members to process this raw data to integrate into reports and public communications.

Grant management, reporting, and liaising with the Mellon Foundation (5%)

- Coordinate personnel and purchasing activities with the PI and SSC finance and HR staff

- Assist Principal Investigators with submission of progress reports, program reviews, and other activities related to the award.

Required Qualifications:

Position Overview:

The Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at the University of Kansas invites applications for a Program Coordinator to coordinate Trans Studies at the Commons, a Mellon funded initiative to build a hub of transgender scholarship and organizing. We seek a conscientious and community minded individual with strong administrative skills and a passion for social justice. The position is 50% time-20 hours per week-from March 19-Sept. 30 with full benefits and potential to increase hours to 75% time – 30 hours per week in October 2024. The grant funded position will terminate with the grant in May of 2027.

Trans Studies at the Commons is a local and nationwide initiative for scholar-activists building the field of Transgender Studies. With the support of the Mellon Foundation, we will build a cohort of interdisciplinary fellows, host annual retreats, present public programs, and collect oral histories. The Project Coordinator is a significant role tasked with executing day to day operations and the goals and vision of the Trans Studies Initiative, the cluster of faculty who serve as Primary Investigators on the grant.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
