Nursing Assistant/Aide and Patient Care Assistant/Aide. 513902

Description

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) works under the supervision of a licensed nurse in adult care homes (nursing homes), hospitals, clinics, and other environments where residents/patients benefit from assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including eating bathing and personal hygiene, dressing, transferring and repositioning, and mobility.  During the course, students develop nursing care skills, demonstrate and understand how to work safely, and develop empathy and appreciation for the person who lives in a long-term care environment. Competencies are evaluated in the classroom, lab, and clinical experiences. After completing the course and passing the state test, the student is credentialed as a Certified Nurse Aide in Kansas.  The CNA credential is required for employment as a CNA and is often required for admission to nursing and other professional health care education programs. The course follows the curriculum specified by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).
